Description
An entire curriculum for first grade! Literacy, math, science and socials studies are all included. Literacy is taught through the Science of Reading approach, which has been vetted for decades and has shown amazing success in the classroom. Little Shoes Academy strives to bring this approach into the home as well. This first grade curriculum encompasses every element for reading instruction, including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, heart words (sight words), fluency and comprehension. The content is presented through engaging learning activities that hit the sweet spot of teaching new concepts at an effective instructional level without provoking frustration.
Math is a strategic mix of instruction, games and manipulatives. The curriculum is different in that it goes beyond counting and placing numbers in order. It teaches numbers relate to each other. Children with strong number sense think flexibly and fluently about numbers. The skills are not rote. They involve critical thinking and analyzing, which helps children master foundational math concepts.
The Science and Social Studies Units are stand-alone units. You may pick and choose when and in what order to teach them.
